finished Saturday

I finished Ian McEwan's Saturday last night. I have mixed feelings on this one. There was definitely the keep-you-reading suspense throughout the story. I had a hard time walking away from the book because I knew something big was going to happen to bring the events of this one day together. At the same time, the stream-of-consciousness writing style had its ups and downs. Yes, his moral dilemmas were very interesting, but reading 20 pages before the next comment in the actual conversation that was happening was a bit much for me at times too.
How to rate it? For my own taste, I'd say 3.5/5. I'm sure that others I know would rate it much higher.

This sounds interesting, but after slogging through Atonement and its lengthy digressions, I was like "GET TO THE POINT" and I wonder if this book was the same.

I liked Atonement much better, and "get to the point" was exactly what I was saying a few times with this one.

I haven't gotten to Saturday yet, but it's in my TBR collection waiting its turn. From your description, I can see why it could get frustrating in spots.

I really liked Atonement too--although it took awhile for the book to take off for me.

Have you read Chesil Beach, Christine? I wonder how that one would compare.

Wendy,
Saturday definitely wasn't bad, it was a mixed read for me. I was able to read it in a few days (with a child's party going on, so that's pretty good). Atonement
just made a very strong impression on me, so I liked it much better. I have on Chesil Beach, but haven't read it yet.

Sometimes I like the whole stream of consciousness style, sometimes I don't. I guess it depends on the writer/book. I have not tried this one yet.
